Results at a Glance:
- 430% ROI for our client in the program’s first year
- Engaged participants grew 2.1x faster than non-enrolled sales reps
- Built valuable channel intelligence to streamline outreach & strengthen loyalty
Business Issue
A manufacturer selling through an indirect channel wanted to increase share of mind and wallet with independent sales reps who carried multiple competing brands. Previous efforts generated short-term activity but did not translate into sustained growth or brand loyalty. The client also lacked clear channel data, so a secondary goal was to build business intelligence through the incentive.
Key challenges included:
- Moving reps past short-term activity spikes toward sustained growth & loyalty
- Standing out with independent reps who work with multiple competing brands
- Gaining clear channel data to inform future incentive strategy
Our Solution
Using our DRIVE framework, we analyzed our client’s sales data to establish baselines and then recommended an incentive approach centered on individual growth goals. Incremental gains funded the program, which culminated in a group travel experience to Costa Rica.
Our team designed and managed the program from start to finish: overall strategy, rule structure values, individual activity tracking, marketing support, proprietary travel platform creation (Inspire), and travel sourcing, negotiating and fulfillment, with full management on-site in Costa Rica.
Throughout the program, we provided data-backed recommendations on how best to boost dragging segments, where promotions could drive further growth and how targeted engagement efforts would best strengthen vital connections.
The Results
In the program’s very first year, engaged participants outpaced the rest of the field and delivered strong returns for our client:
Overall, our client saw a 430% ROI and began building valuable channel intelligence used to streamline outreach and strengthen loyalty.
The program also encouraged broader selling behavior, with a 9% increase in multi-category order rates versus a 3% decline among non-enrolled reps. Even enrolled participants who did not earn the group travel reward grew sales 41% from the previous year.
Participants in the program gained new motivation in their selling opportunities. Additionally, enrolled participants grew at more than double the rate of non-enrolled participants, in the same market, selling the same products, during the same period.
